Our client's ESG vision is to be the leading law firm famous for its positive contribution to society. The firm delivers its ESG strategy by working collaboratively across the firm.
The Role
Seated within the firm's People Directorate team, as a Senior Sustainability Manager, you will play a pivotal role in defining and delivering the firm's sustainability (including corporate responsibility) strategy, embedding improved sustainability processes and performance within our professional services firm and meeting our net zero targets.
This is a hands-on role, which will suit a confident self-starter who enjoys a mix of operational and strategic work and interacting with a range of diverse teams and people (from regular Board briefings, to advising our BD teams and client partners, executing change with Business Services and People Directorate colleagues, and working with our community partners).
Main Responsibilities
Strategy Development & Implementation:
- Lead the development, execution and embedding of the sustainability strategy in alignment with the firm’s goals, regulatory frameworks and industry best practices to ensure key milestones and targets are met.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to integrate sustainability considerations into business processes and decision-making.

Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including employees, clients, and third sector organisations.
- Act as a point of contact for sustainability and community partnership related enquiries and foster a culture of transparency and accountability.
- Maintain relevant intranet and internet content to inform and support the firm's internal and external communication programmes.
Policy Development:
- Review and communicate sustainability policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and best practice standards.
- Stay abreast of emerging trends and legislation in sustainability, adjusting strategies and policies accordingly.
Metrics & Reporting:
- Manage and monitor sustainability KPIs and metrics to measure and report the impact of sustainability initiatives.
- Report on GHG emissions and progress against net zero strategy.
- Prepare regular briefings for senior management, tracking progress against goals and identifying areas for improvement.
- Lead the firm’s internal and external ESG reporting and completion of surveys and benchmarking reports.
Employee Engagement:
- Develop and implement programmes to engage employees in sustainable practices, that support their performance and development and foster a culture of responsibility.
- Provide training and resources to support employees in integrating sustainability into their roles.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with members of the DEI team, net zero working group, People Directorate and broader firm to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to ESG and delivery of the ESG strategy.
- Partner with external thought leader organisations.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify and assess sustainability related risks and opportunities, seeking innovative solutions and best practices for continuous improvement.
- Lead efforts to obtain and maintain relevant certifications and recognition.
Skills and Qualifications
You should possess the following qualities:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Sustainability, Environmental Management, Business).
- Proven experience in a sustainability role, preferably within professional services or listed firms.
- In-depth knowledge of existing and emerging ESG and sustainability measurement and reporting frameworks and reporting standards including but not limited to GHG reporting, Global Reporting Initiative, EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), TCFD, and ISSB.
- Strong project management and analytical skills with the ability to drive initiatives from conception to implementation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage diverse stakeholders.
- Experience in developing and implementing sustainability training programmes for employees.
